My Story
After a car accident left me with whiplash and persistent headaches, I found chiropractic offered some quick relief. However, the need for weekly visits prompted me to seek a more sustainable solution. That's when I met Dale Speedy, who was training in Ortho-Bionomy at the time. The approach impressed me so much that I signed up for a course.
I was fortunate to study Ortho-Bionomy with Neville Hedges, who instilled in me the importance of attentive listening and observation. Other influential teachers included Ian Stephenson, who emphasised the interconnectedness of all things, and Zoe Crowley, who demonstrated the art of simply being present.
After three years of study, I qualified as an Ortho-Bionomy practitioner, and Dale and I opened our clinic in Ngatea. While I found Ortho-Bionomy effective, I felt its emphasis on technique sometimes overshadowed the core principles articulated by its founder, Arthur Lincoln Pauls. Pauls, a judo practitioner, developed a conceptual way of working which meant rather than doing a technique on the client, you worked with your client.
A turning point came when Dale introduced me to a unique approach he had been developing. I was astounded by the speed and effectiveness of this new method. This initial exploration in 2005 eventually led to the formal establishment of ConTact C.A.R.E in 2006.
Drawing on his extensive martial arts experience, Dale observed predictable patterns in how the body reacts to applied pressure. He then refined this knowledge by observing the instinctive responses of horses to external forces, creating a precise map of the body's natural evasive movements.
My role as Co-Founder of ConTact C.A.R.E evolved gradually. I contributed my knowledge and perspectives, providing a valuable counterpoint as the therapy developed. Dale formally acknowledged my contribution as Co-Founder in 2008
I now run Kym Summers ConTact C.A.R.E out of my purpose built clinic in Mangatarata. On top of that I run monthly training for other practitioners or students interested in learning about ConTact C.A.R.E.
